Abstract Art
I have always enjoyed the creativity afforded by the materials around us. Creativity does not, in my opinion, mean copying, or trying to, the wonderful nature that surrounds us, and so I moved more and more towards Abstract Art.
Someone once wrote:
"Abstract Art is achieving its effect, through colour and images, rather than Attempting to represent the recognisable."
Wood is a wonderful, natural, live material. There are many hundreds of Varieties going from Softwoods to very hard, Hardwoods such as African Blackwood. Every Continent has its own range of Woods. I carved and turned various woods having joined the
Sussex Woodcraft Society
As older age crept up, Wood Carving and Woodturning producing dust became a problem, but creativity still lurked. I moved to Painting. Initially I used Oil Paints, but whilst the effect was good and satisfying, the difficulty of cleaning brushes, waiting time for the paint to dry, was presenting difficulties.
I switched to Acrylics. Nobody can know the longevity, but experts have carried out research and are pretty certain it will be no different. The Colours are no different, mixing is very easy, and in every other respect, it is a clean operation.
